Meet Our 2009 Queen

Jessica Leigh Haden

 

The 2009 Mar-Del Watermelon Queen is

Jessica Leigh Haden. 

Jessica is 20 years old and a Salisbury, Maryland native.  She is currently a student at University of Maryland College Park, majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and minoring in Human Development.  Upon graduation, Jessica plans to obtain a Master's degree in education and teach either at the elementary or middle school level.  Her hobbies include reading, visiting with family and friends, running with her two dogs and attending University of Maryland sports.  Jessica is a Presidential Classroom Scholar, has hosted the TV show "TV Tutors Live" and has interviewed former Lt. Governor Michael Steele.

 

The Mar-Del Watermelon Queen is crowned annually at the Maryland-Delaware Watermelon Association's annual convention and serves as a public relations representative for both the association and the watermelon industry.  Her primary role is to encourage increased consumption of locally grown, MAR-DELicious watermelons, nutrition education, and informing consumers and legislative officials of the economic importance of agriculture to our area.  Representing the association throughout Maryland and Delaware and across the country, the Queen's tour is funded jointly from the association and sponsorships.
